This thread is for students who matching into residencies to share their stats (anonymously if desired) so that other students interested in residencies can see what types of qualifications are generally favorable to residency programs.

SN: The program I matched at did participate in PPS and I believe this did help with me getting an onsite interview.

Speaking of stats, looks like 63% of those who submitted a match card got a spot, a ~2% improvement over last year. Net gain of 260+ residency slots sortof keeping pace with the number of graduates. Still overall short though.

Hello all,

- 3.55/4.0 (class of 2012!... also a re-applicant!)
- 0-6 Pharm.D program at an established school in the northeast (w/ meager reputation for students seeking residency training)
- Rho Chi, APhA (member on paper, not really active...at all). Involvement with other non-pharmacy student orgs w/ some leadership experience (was able to convey how I would translate these skills into a pharmacy context)
- ...no community service... whooops
- hospital intern x4years during pharmacy school; currently a staff pharmacist at a large, acute care hospital
- strong clinical APPE rotations in a variety of inpatient/ambcare settings (diabetes clinic, family practice clinic, ICUs, internal med, ID)
- 2 minor publications
- Applied 14, Interviewed 8, Ranked all 8 (*did NOT think this one through AT ALL, so THANKFUL I didn't match at either of the last 2 programs I tacked on at the end of my list. At the time I felt like I had to rank as many programs as possible to increase my chances)
- Matched at my #1 choice! (acute care, SOP affiliated, established program)

3 years of inpatient experience in a top hospital
participated in many health fairs
research experience but no publication
APPE rotations: critical care, long term care, neuro ambulatory clinic, FDA, retail from hospital outpatient pharmacies, internal medicine hospital.
All while having two babies in pharmacy school
9 applications all in one specific out of state area, 1 interview at a community hospital, and matched!

Couldn't be more excited! I felt so crappy compared to all those on here with multiple interviews, but I guess it only takes one sometimes!

-Medical mission to Haiti as acting "Pharmacist" as a P2, Most of my other volunteer work was with ASP in order to satisfy the hours my school requires for graduation eligibility - around 40 hours

-Worked in hospital setting for 6 years pre-pharmacy school and then as an intern thereafter (my work experience set me apart from other candidates and I really played this up on my CV)

-Applied to 8 programs, offered interviews at 6, went to 5 and ranked 5 - mostly these were larger academic hospitals and 2 VA's

-Matched at VA 1st choice


I chose difficult rotations centered around critical care/nutrition/ID and got great letters of reference from preceptors with lots of initials after their names who are well-known/respected locally and some nationally. I also chose as many rotations as I could at the VA where I wanted to match and I think this helped a lot.
