2012-2013 MD/PhD Application Interview Invites

Hey all, long time lurker making my first thread!

I'm applying this cycle and was wondering if anyone has heard back for MD/PhD interview invites!

Also, just wanted to have a thread to hear from other applicants about your application experiences, how you're handling costs for interview travel or housing, and anyone who has been through it already and has advice on the matter!

I haven't received any invites yet myself, but I saw last year's thread by gobroncos123 on this and thought it was a cool idea, so feel free to post any status updates or comments below and I hope to see you all on the interview trail!

Programs usually start reviewing applications, and thus sending out interview invites, in August, at least in my experience.

K31, if I am complete (i.e. supplemental app and everything else are received) in late August and early September, will that negatively impact my chance to be interviewed ? The consensus in the pre-allo forum is that one should be complete before early August. I am not sure if the same thing is true for MD/PhD, considering MD/PhD secondaries have more essays to write. Also, if I still have not turned in the secondaries after 3-4 weeks, will that affect my application at the school ? In the NIH video, the director at Alabama says secondaries should be turned in within 1-2 weeks to show interest in the school. I am not sure if this is applicable only at her school or it is the general wisdom everywhere else. Sorry this is the wrong place to ask about this, but since you mentioned, I figured I would just ask here.

Don't worry... Only 1/3 of MD/PhD applications to my program have been verified. AMCAS is considerably slower than TMDSAS. As per the AMCAS website, they have 25 K of applications as unverified and 12 K as verified. They are still verifying those submitted in late June.

Do you think MD/PhD schools care as much if we sit on secondaries for a little longer like ~3-4 weeks? I am working full time and can't really submit more than 1 a day and i have about 20 left.

I know MD Programs want a fast turnaround.

I'm wondering this too, since I also work full time, and should have all my secondaries in by the middle of the month anyway.

Edit: just glancing at Pitt's statistics from last year, they accepted 38 students, and 6 matriculated.

I've heard from various interview days that schools aim to accept about 2-2.5x the number of slots available, so the percentage of acceptance to a particular program hovers at around 10%.

Or if you want to look at it globally, in 2011, there were 1813 applicants, 856 acceptances, and 633 matriculated (https://www.aamc.org/download/161868/data/table32-mdphd00-11.pdf), so the percentage of getting into any program is 47%.

I've heard from various interview days that schools aim to accept about 2-2.5x the number of slots available, so the percentage of acceptance to a particular program hovers at around 10%.

That's probably a pretty good rule of thumb, but it varies by program. They keep obsessive track of these data and use that to guide how many acceptances to give to get their desired clas size.
