I apologize if this thread has been started elsewhere for ophthalmology this year. In talking to previous residents, they found that hearing when interviews had been offered was helpful. Has anyone heard from any schools yet? If so, which school and what dates are being offered. I hope this info will be helpful for others as it comes in. Good luck!

Congrats to those who have started receiving interview invitations!

Does anyone know if most schools send out all invites at once? That is, if we didn't hear from a particular school but know someone else who got an interview, should we assume we are probably not receiving an invitation?

Good question: I don't know the answer for sure, but my gut feeling after looking at interview threads from the past few years is that most schools send out invitations in batches. At least the ones that let us know this early. For example, UC Irvine I know does it this way. They only offered me the Oct 29 date for interview even though I know they have 2 other dates (they probably just trying to fill the first date at this point, will probably send more invites later to fill the other 2 dates). On another note, I did an away rotation at UC Irvine which may be the reason I heard so early.

along the same lines - for people who are hearing back already, did you submit recently or way before the 9/1 target date?

Received interview offers from University of Florida - Gainesville (12/3, 12/6, or 12/10) and Medical College of Georgia (10/25, 11/15, 12/13). I submitted my CAS application at the end of July.

Anyone had thoughts on unifying the threads!? Can admins combine the posts on the 2 thread perhaps? Or maybe start 1 for discussion, like this one, and leave the other thread JUST for dates? Just some thoughts...

I have 2 interview offers thus far
1. Medical College of GA (all information above is correct)
2. University of Kansas, rec'd invite email today (9/21), interviews are for Nov 12 and 19th (Fridays)
 
Hey hncl, I sent in my application on 8/30 I believe, just a few days before the target date. I did an away elective there though, so I think that accounts for the quick invite from them. Best of luck!

A friend of mine got an invite from U of Wisconsin a few days ago. Heard that they only give out 35 spots for interviews total.

I sent an email reply ranking my preference for interview dates but never got a confirmation that they received my preferences or a follow-up email confirming an interview date. The reason I'm asking is because the first interview date is next week. I'm hoping my reply didn't end up in the spam folder.

I got the invite on 9/28 and responded the same day, and I haven't received a response either. The invitation letter mentioned that they wait until everybody replies with their top choices before handing out dates.
 
Hi ophthoapp2010,

I had the same uncertainty and, after receiving a second copy of the identical interview offer email, I wrote the admin to ask if she had received my initial reply. She said she wasn't sure as she had a ton of emails she was sorting through... but then she responded to my second email and arranged for a set date. As I just learned, depending on where you are coming from, airfare may unfortunately be absurd this close to next week but if you end up interviewing then, I'll see you there! Also fyi, if you need, there might still be some $25/night rooms on campus in Reed Hall (the number there is: 410-955-3905). They are single dorm rooms with shared bathrooms but at least that can help offset airfare cost and it is nice because they are very close to where interviews will be.
