I read the OSU vet college admitted profile last night and freaked out.
I was wondering how many animal experience and veterinary hours you had?

Im a late bloomer, only decided I wanted to go to vet school about 7 months ago -- since then I have put 560 animal experience hours behind my name. I will be going into my junior year at OSU this fall and plan on applying for a fall 2016 start date.
My experience is really diverse (companion, large animal, exotic) and I start shadowing a shelter veterinarian this weekend -- and the shelter is partnered with my dream vet school.

Id love to hear some advice and past experiences:oops:

More never hurts, but especially if you have strong academics you can get by without huge numbers. I think I had like 700-800 vet experience hours and something like 350 of animal experience. Apparently it was enough. I had zero vet hours when I started undergrad in 2010. There's always time and opportunity to get more experience (even if it means delaying a year), its a much better problem to have than trying to recover from poor grades, just remember that.

Accepted student threads will give you a good taste of what others were successful with also.

Here are the past four:

also, I started first vet experience October 2011, submitted VMCAS late september 2013. you'll hear lots of similar stories. plus, in general, quality > quantity.
