I took both sets although it was many, many moons ago (graduated in 2002).

I wouldn't say one is harder than the other but doing Canadian boards all in one swoop was draining.

Get the detailed list of topics from both boards and divide your study time up accordingly. If a topic has a total of 3-5 questions on the entire board exam don't spend a lot of time on it.

Candian boards seemed to have more optics on it. The clinical portion was a little strange the way they had you perform some tests but they explained it in detail prior to the examination.

I took Canadian boards a year after graduating from a US school but most students were taking it just after their graduation.

It was suggested to me to take it in Montreal rather than Waterloo. A lot fewer students and it was relatively less stressful.
