I've been shadowing a PT with wound care certification at a local hospital for a couple of months now and really enjoy what they do. I don't want to ask the taboo question of how much she makes with CWS. Does anyone know how much they make?

If I knew how much a particular wound-care PT made at "CWS" (where is that?), I would not be going to PT school. Instead, I would hang my shingle out as a Psychic.

CWS is certified wound specialist. It's not a 'place'.
No need to be rude on this site. If you don't have info that can help someone, don't respond at all.

Ironically of course, the most helpful place on SDN to find information on this would be the thread (http://forums.studentdoctor.net/threads/starting-salary-for-dpt-new-grads.931151/)created and maintained by jblil, who has actually put in a lot of work to benefit everyone else regarding similar questions. Searching for such information would prove much more useful than asking questions that are impossible to answer.

I am guessing the question could be answered with your link, or probably more representative (compared to the link you posted), BLS. Generally, PTs get paid a similar amount (within $10,000) no matter what kind of patients being treated. Some places may give a small bonus for specialization, but that is not a rule for all places. So CWS may give a small bump in salary, but maybe not.

kbak - I appreciate your question and I want to acknowledge that it is not answered by either the data offered by the BLS (as far as I can tell) or the information in jblil's very helpful (and much appreciated) salary survey.

I have no idea how much the CWS certification is worth to a PT, and it seems no one else here does either. But I was wondering where you are in your PT journey since you said you're shadowing, I'm guessing that you're in the pre-application phase.

If wound care has grabbed you as a specialty, and you are considering the financial aspects of your decision, it might be worth reflecting on the professional make-up of CWS certified people:

There are more CWS's who are RNs than PTs. Given the competitiveness and cost of the PT education these days, I wonder if nursing might be a good fit for someone with a passion for wound care. I have a professor who is a CWS and it seems like her expertise and the general scope of practice of PT have very little overlap. I've wondered why she didn't pursue nursing given what she's done professionally. FWIW.
