as a medical student, these type of threads are incredibly helpful to gauge competitiveness

School Rank: No idea. I go to a DO school (VCOM)
Class Rank: Unknown (school does not release class rank to us)
Research experience: nothing published - some work as an assistant in data collection with faculty's research project and also was working on a case report at time of application (not yet published)
Step 1/2 Score: Only took COMLEX: Step 1 503 (~50th percentile), Step 2 595 (~84th percentile)

Programs applied:
20
Programs interviewed: invited to 17, went to 11
Position ranked: Ranked all 11 programs. Matched at my #1.
Thoughts: For DO students - many programs seemed to have a 500 as their COMLEX cut-off (had a few friends who applied similar places as I did but did not get interviews with scores in the mid 400 range). For everyone else: apply broadly, interview broadly, and rank every program that you would go to over SOAPing. Interview at a variety of programs (large, medium, small, those with fellows, those without, etc) and go wherever is best for you.

School Rank: Middle Tier
Class Rank: Top 20%
Research experience: None in med school, a few projects with 2 publications and one poster presentation prior to medical school.
Step 1/2 Score: 242/260
Programs applied: 20
Programs interviewed: 17 invites, 13 attended
Position ranked: 12
Thoughts: Apply to many different types of programs (big city v. smaller city, 40 interns v. 20, every fellowship imaginable v. only a couple, etc...) and take interviews at a bunch of different ones so you can tell what you actually like in a program because on paper they are all basically the same. Then rank on which programs you feel you will enjoy the most and will give you the opportunities for your future career. On paper almost all the programs are going to be the same and the ACGME regulates them so much that you are going to learn the same thing no matter where you go. So basically the only differences are location, size, reputation (which depending on what you want to do does matter), and which electives are available to you.
