I had a question about problems in pregnancy if the mother was O and the father was AB...and the answer said that it was not an issue because AB's to ABO antigens are IgM and they dont cross the placenta...however I have seen that AB's to ABO antigens can be IgG and cause HDN....any ideas???

IgG and IgM are antibodies, not RBC surface antigens. Does that clear it up at all? Sorry, I don't know what you're asking exactly.

Sorry...

What the answer states is that AB's to ABO antigens do not cross the placenta because they are IgM....however I have seen that the AB's can be either IgM or IgG...which would cross and cause a problem...
