With the different timing periods of many away apps, can we cancel?

If I apply to an away that needs a response within 2 weeks and accept, but then get an offer from a program I really like a few weeks later, can I still cancel the first and accept the second?

I'm assuming this is not ok, but just want to make sure. Thanks!

You can and if you feel the other program is one you really do like better, you should. Obviously, this is not an ideal way to handle things. This is an instance where I'd recommend limiting the number of aways you apply to. You want to apply to enough to get the ones you want but hoarding all the away slots only annoys fellow students and worse, program coordinators.
