Goljan briefly states in regard to the most common subtype of MG (with thymic hyperplasia) that there is follicular B cell hyperplasia in the thymus where the anti-AChR Abs are produced.

Does anyone know more about this, and how it relates to the thymoma subtype? I also read they may have different HLA predispositions, but haven't been able to pull it all together into something coherent.

For the B cells to make antibody to the ACh receptor, they first have to be activated by T cells, which is part of the domain of the thymus. The exact mechanism whereby the thymus undergoes hyperplasia as a result of the increase in antibody production is unknown.
