I recently read in an article that in addition to the standard medical school courses, Osteopathic schools put in an additional 200+ hours focusing on the musculoskeletal system. Why is it then, that you almost always see allopathic orthopods (in the region I live in, I know of only one DO ortho doc, the rest are MD's) -- I'm sure I'm missing out on a lot of other facts, please fill me in.

It's a top choice for MD residents; therefore no MD program needs to accept DO residents to fill their residency positions. Primary care fields need the DOs to fill their spots, especially with it being more difficult to fill them with FMGs.
