If the board passing rate is really low and it's really expensive, why should I go to NECO?

The ability to pass the boards is really independent of the school. I truly believe that if you took all the students who failed the boards and brought them to the school with the highest board passing rates, they will still have a higher failer rate than average. The ability to pass I believe lies within each and every student. Their abilty to comprehend the material, the retention of their undergrad material, their will power. There are too many factors that can come into play, if you are a clown you won't make it no matter what school you goto and on the other end of the spectrum, if you are gifted, you can goto the school with the lowest pass rates and still do fine. However, I think the school does plays a role, but not a large one. May be +/-10% would be my wild guess.

As I've stated in my other post, what I do not agree with is wasting too much time on Basic Science courses so that less time can be spent on OD courses or that there is less time to absorb OD related material. If I were a newbie student I would focus on which schools would better prepare me to become a better optometrist instead of which school would bombard me with the most material (useless and useful) over the next four years.
