Why did you choose gastroenterology?

I'm really interested in knowing what made you choose this specialty (please refrain from mentioning monetary compensation). I've just finished my second year and I am starting to give this subject some thought.

No gastroenterologists in here?
What I specifically wanted to know was the following: does this specialty offer a substantial range of procedures and diseases? Or does it get monotonous over time, especially as you sub-specialize?
