Who's Making Interview Offers?!?!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Children's Hospital of Michigan (Wayne State Univ.) yesterday via email. Thank goodness SDN is working again!

Woke up to an email by UCI. :D  After being disappointed yesterday with no responses (and hearing about UWash), this is so exciting!

Just got EVMS (Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters). :)

Hey Lara, has UCLA downloaded your app yet?

Wake forest via email

Got university of iowa , sunny buffalo and university of illinois of chicago.
University of illinois of chicago: Any inputs? I know its not in the same league as U of chicago or northwestern.

good luck to all.

Inova Fairfax (Falls Church VA near DC) came yesterday. Anyone else apply? I expect I'll like the area.

Nope, no UCLA download yet. Wonder if they're waiting for the Dean's Letter...

drv, is that the UIC Christ Hospital program (good) or plain UIC (less so)?

Sorry to answer your question so late DRV, but I'm not on much. I don't know a ton about Crozer-Chester, but I was sort of thinking of it as a safety program.

Hi Lara
Unfortunately it is UIC(plain). No reply from christ yet. This one is perfect example i guess where university affiliated program is better then the university program with which the former is affiliated.or thats what i have heard.

I also got penn state, hershey. Now i may sound dumb by asking you people how is this program too.but the point is most programs have good websites n all say half of our residents go in fellowships.scutwork review always contradicts itself.Sometimes best place to get info is SDN.

Hi faerichilde
I also applied crozer-chester as safe play, or thats what i thought. In this forum someone mentioned it as one of the good community programs along with maimonides and inova fairfax.

Got my first rejection today by e-mail :D (CHOP)

"Dear Applicant...

What were you thinking?!?!" (or something like that).

Well, at least they're prompt.

Sorry earmuffs - I have to say I'm surprised I didn't get that rejection yet! But it could come. Congrats on Children's Memorial and UWash btw, I'm still waiting on those. :)

Is anyone else having a problem with setting up an interview at Rainbow Babies?

First, they called on Wednesday rather than emailing me. They called my "permanent" phone number as indicated on my application, which is my parent's home phone number. This is NOT my "primary" phone number as indicated in ERAS. My sister took the message and told them that I dont live there. She tried to give them my cell phone number to get a hold of me and they said they did not want it. They left a 1-800 number for me to call. I have tried calling multiple times on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday and it has been busy the entire time. This whole thing just seems very strange to me. Anyone else in a similar situation?

I had the same problem, I think we got a junk phone number. You can contact Natalie at 216-844-3641 to schedule.

3 so far: CHOP, MGH, Columbia, all came in last week.

Miami Children's - on a Saturday! :)

Hope the ones CTWhale mentioned reply soon either way, I haven't gotten anything from NYC or Boston.

UCSF by phone yesterday.

For those of you who got CHOP invites/rejections (sorry), do you all have all of your letters in? I haven't heard anything but am still waiting for my chairman's letter (ARG!!!).
:scared:

hey futureped--- if it makes you feel any better, i was waiting on a fourth letter for a while, finally got it in, then started to get some invites, including CHOP. Could be a coincidence, but then again...

I submitted on 9/26. I now have interviews at:
St. Christophers, Philly
Rochester
Emory
U of MD
UT Southwestern
USC
Georgetown
Pittsburgh
U of Arizona
U of NM
UVA

I am waiting to hear from about 20 programs... (I'm couples matching with my significant other who is going into general surgery)... these include: CHOP, UNC, Duke, Hopkins, Baylor, UCLA, UCSF, U of Colorado, Columbia, Montefiorre and others. I have above average Step I scores, but have not taken Step II. I have a great deal of international child health research experience and I have an MPH. I am not AOA, but believe that I am AOK.

write if you have more questions!

UCLA has not downloaded my application. The only things that are missing are: 4th LOR (Chairman's), USMLE Step II (not taking til Feb), Deans Letter.

Hi,

When you say 4 LORs, do you include the dean's letter in the 4? Because I thought they only wanted 3 plus the dean's letter.....I only ask b/c I'm waiting on my 4th LOR in addition to dean's letter but I wasn't going to bug the guy because I didn't think I needed 4 LORs.

Thanks,

DF

Since SDN has been down, I received offers from Miami Children's (last Saturday), Long Island Jewish, and Univ Florida.

Still praying for Columbia, my number one choice..... :)

Minnesota today by e-mail. That makes 6 of 11 so far...

No invites, but UCLA just downloaded today. :) And I finally got my third (Chairman) LOR uploaded. All I need is to find out who besides UWash wants a fourth, assign it and my app will be complete. Yay!

Just thought I'd throw my two cents in, having done rotations at both Christ and UIC. The Christ program is affiliated with UIC for the University affiliation, but not for much else. Christ has a free standing children's hospital connected to the main hospital by tunnels, UIC is an 18-bed half floor of the main hospital. Christ's residents are mostly US grads, about 1/2 D.O.s, UIC's program is almost entirely FMGs. Christ and UIC share a few of the same specialists, but in my experience I've found the specialists at Christ to be more open and interested in teaching. Christ's didactics are definitely superior, and they are infinitely more busy. The residents at both are pretty happy, as far as I can tell. Christ has more private attendings, UIC is all service attendings on inpatient, both have NICU and PICU, although Christ is busier in both. I've heard of more impressive fellowships from Christ, but I can't tell you if that's really true. I can tell you I am applying to Christ but not UIC.

I've heard from Rush, Loyola, and Uof Chicago- and I just now received an invitation from Christ
Waiting still... Colorado, Northwestern, Phoenix Childrens'

Also got Christ tonight (in my ERAS mailbox, not my regular one yet). That's it for Chicago till Children's Memorial decides...

(Now where is NYC???)

I got a Harbor-UCLA invite about 45 minutes ago.

I got #7 at St. Christophers in Philly at 6pm today

Got Wash U this afternoon.

NYU - now I can safely dream of moving to Manhattan! :) I needed it after reading of invites to Columbia, Cornell and Mount Sinai...

I figured this would definitely come at some point...little surprised about how soon though. I had only one of my letters in...at least wait until you see And the writer BCC'd to me (he didn't even tell them that I suck!!). Although I did just submit my picture. Hmmm.......

I have not taken step II and don't really have the time to do it anytime before early March. Although there have been some people discussing back and forth about whether or not step II scores are required prior to submission of the rank lists (Boston, CHOP, and Hopkins have ambiguous text on their websites), an advisor at my home institution called all 3 to clarify, and it is not necessary.

Could have been my personal statement. It was definitely...different. My PD loved it, but some probably don't appreciate the quirkiness.

Ah well...I wasn't too hot on the idea of living in Philly anyways.

Holy crap!! Dennis Rodman is on a commercial right now advertising for ambulance chasers. Weird.

Applying to Child Neuro (which means one app via sfmatch -> child neuro programs, and one app via NRMP -> pediatrics programs). Major pain.

ERAS submitted last Friday. Within one week: Rochester, Utah, Cinci, Children's Memorial (McGaw NW), UMich, U Colorado, UWash. Also received an invite from the WashU Peds Neuro folks that included a peds interview.

Still waiting on Mayo and OHSU.

Heard from case western reserve metrohealth.Anyone with some experience with their pediatric department?

Indiana via e-mail about 20 minutes ago. :)

Has anyone out there heard from George Washington University or Saint Louis University?

Add:
Baylor
NYU
UCLA Harbor

Had prior to 10/11:
St. Christophers, Philly
Rochester
Emory
U of MD

What do you mean by 'quirky' or 'different'?

Have already posted the Cali schools in a different thread but other programs I've heard from are Colorado, Phoenix, Georgetown, Austin, and Oregon.

Austin has peds?

I don't know how good Austin's program is, but the city is awesome so I figured I would check it out. Plus I have friends I can visit down there.

Also add these Midwest programs:

Blank Children's in Des Moines
Iowa City
University of Nebraska/Creighton in Omaha
Children's Mercy in Kansas City (UMKC)
University of Missouri in Columbia

Remember...we need to start a thread about the interviews...how did they go? what to expect? what you thought about the program?...once we start going on interviews!

just got Tufts this afternoon!

Tufts and Pittsburgh today.

Heard some things about Floating at Tufts, and I wasn't sure what's true & what's not...looking for some current Tufts MS4 or PGY there if they know.

Somebody who had been at Tufts several yrs ago (but hasn't had anything to do with them since) mentioned their GI department left for MGH, and heme/onc left for Dana Farber back in the day. Is this true? Has this been 'fixed'? Everything pretty financially stable there?

Thanks all,

Tufts Heme-Onc department is actually pretty strong. Obviously being in Boston, it's overshadowed by Dana Farber, etc, but it is still firmly in place, and a relatively busy service.
They did lose their GI department to MGH last year, but there is still one guy left, who is amazing. He is revamping the department and just hired someone. So there is still GI. They had some issues when they were going to merge with Children's, but seemed to have come out alive...

Just got my 1st interview invite, after submitting the other day from St. Christopher's in Philly. I doubt they didn't even looked at my application, since my transcript wasn't sent into ERAS until about 6 minutes before they sent me an interview. So I'm excited to have an interview, but I swear they probably interview everyone that applies....

Waiting still... Colorado, Northwestern, Phoenix Childrens'

as a former UIC student well-versed (9 years there) in the thrills and chills of the west side campus and "the U" (as University of Illinois Hospital is popularly known), christ blows uic's program out of the water. for experience, i cannot recommend christ enough. they match people to good fellowships and dr. roy is a trip...i loved him. he is the program director and the clerkship coordinator...i rotated there as a third year and that's what finalized my decision to go into peds. the residents are happy, they're smart, the attendings care, they're nice and Hope children's is a nice place. I was not a fan of Rush and Loyola...University of Chicago is also amazing. I ended up coming to LA, but if I were still in Chicago, U of C and Christ would have been at the top fo my list. Northwestern is nice but I didn't care for the attitude I sensed there...plus UIC students historically never, ever, ever match there (chicago is a city of insane politics) so there was no point in trying, really.

Finally some New England love - got Maine and Dartmouth. :)

ETA - UVA too! First one that had previously given invites, I think. I feel a lot better now.
