I was wondering if anyone has insight on why there are many more men in radiation oncology than women... i find it an interesting statistic.

As per Frieda:

Average percent female full-time physician faculty 24.5%

Residents
Total number of active residents/fellows 494
Average number of residents/fellows 6.3
Average percent female 29.0%

20 out of the 79 programs have female program directors

As far as applicants, see
http://www.aamc.org/programs/eras/programs/statistics/residency/radonco.htm

It appears there are usually 2x's as many males applying in the field as females. At the risk of sounding like a chauvanist pig, I would say it is a plus to be a female in the field.

my guess would be that its been considered a "technical" field. But its also considered a "lifestyle field" so you could use that if the stats were the other way around.
