I want to become a pediatric general surgeon. Why? Because just two years ago I was diagnosed with Hirschsprung's Disease, and from being in the hospital for a month at one time, and seeing all the sick children coming in and out of the hospital really made me want to help them myself. I know some people will just never get better, but if I were able to just help a little that would mean a lot to me. And that's why I want to become a pediatric general surgeon.:)

Cardiologist or Heart Surgeon. Why, because I have S.V.T or Supraventricular Tachycardia, rhythm heart disorder. I had surgery to "fix" it however, it was unsuccessful motivated me to find other methods to "fix" arrhythmias. I have other personal experiences too that motivated me.

I will become this for sho !

Sorry I can't talk like a gettho. My dad owns 2 health insurance companies. My mom has a M.D/ Ph.D and she a university professor at the most prestigious university. And she teaches Neurosurgery. My dad denies health insurance every day to maximum the profit he makes. My family is extremely rich, I meant, more than millionare. We had income tax of 200k last year. I went to the most expensive private school in the country. :D

But did you really live in Getto ?

A Clinical Psychologist :) Because I know I have what it takes to be a good one , to help people and inspire others to live healthy, happy and productive lives .

Stephy :luck:

I'm thinking pediatrics, maybe neonatology, because I was a 27 week premie, or pediatric neurology, because it sounds really interesting.

I am a high school sophomore, I know it is too early for me to make a decision. But I am thinking general surgery, because I have no fear of seeing blood, or organs; I am very interested in how human body works. I've always wanted to be a doctor since I first saw a medical film in Costa Rica where I was born.
Also, I want to help people to get well. I am still young, so I don't know if I have more reasons why I want to be a general surgeon.

Pediatrician because I love kids and work well with them and because I love most subjects pertaining to medicine.

I want to be a great doctor. lol. It's too early for me to decide what specific type of doctor I want to be. I just know for sure, that I can't handle the stress of Oncology.

I'm thinking Emergency Medicine, you get a wide variety of patients so you need to know a little about everything.:woot:

Honestly, any form of surgeon. The inside of the human body, all of it, simply fascinates me. I watch surgeries on the internet, study different body parts and functions, it all just amazes me. I would love to be able to slice someone open and see how everything works in real time.

I've been thinking about Interventional Radiology.

My mother is a CCRN and she specializes in radiology now, and I got to shadow the doctors she works with and it's amazing. There is just enough surgery to keep things interesting, but nothing too critical and stressful, and the other part is working with images to diagnose problems.

As of now, I'm thinking OB/GYN. I've always enjoyed Genetics, plus if you think it over, the job will ALWAYS be in demand. After all, half the population is female, and people will keep reproducing; hence, a need for these kind of doctors. Likewise, I've always enjoyed helping people...just the thought of helping people bring life into this world is great. I'll probably have a sub-specialty of fertility. I'm not certain I'll end up going with this field, but, I'll know after rotations during med. school. :)

Have you shadowed any surgeons yet? It's really interesting. When I go they let me stand right next to the surgeon and watch everything.

Not matter which type of specialty or expertise it is...
As long as you are giving 100% to your profession and dedicated to give out the best -- I am sure such doctors or professionals can make a big difference to the world.

Every little drop fills the ocean, so if we can strive to become that little drop -- it would mean a lot :)

English classes will be your friend..

I want to go into EM because you see so many different types of people and cases.

Actually, I'm extremely interested in Ophthalmology.

Wow, I'm in medical school and I still have no idea what I want my specialty to be. Honestly...most of my classmates are in the same boat, and probably won't decide until halfway through third year or later.

It's awesome to have specific interests, but don't let those interests become set in stone. You may have your heart set on surgery, but someday you may rotate through pediatrics and fall in love with it. Heck, you may even choose a specialty, go through a residency and then decide to switch.

I'm for Surgery too : )
I've shadowed many surgeons (General, Ortho, Vascular) and it just amazes me. I lovee internal anatomy and the way they get to be so hands-on with their work. Like someone has already said, I'm always online watching bypasses and everything. I love it : )

Veterinarian. Well, Avian veterinarian.

I love that veterinarians get to cover all aspects of their patients. There are specialists, but overall their patients are their patients and they cover everything from any surgeries to behavior to diagnose a problem. You can't get bored, and one is never educated enough.

It's really too early to tell, but after the specialties that I've seen up close, I'm most drawn to EM. I liked it best for the great range in patients, the high paced style of medicine, and the great stories it provides. I'm probably biased because the MD that I know best is an EP, and I really like the idea of having set shift work, no call, etc. that the specialty offers.

Although I'll probably change my mind, I got to shadow a hospitalist (my uncle) and thought it was amazing.

I would love to specialize in both radiology and neurology. My dream would be doing a residency in that at NYU that takes 7 years I think. But it's probably a far fetch...

Why do I want to do both? I don't really know. I find neurology extremely interesting. I'm assuming it would pay very well. I like challenges. I have a relative who is a radiologist and he enjoys his job. Also, I think this specialty would allow many job opportunities.

Anybody else hear of this/interested in this?

Derm, ophto, neuro surg or plastics. If I did ophtho I'd be doing V-R. I'm going to NSU-COM and they have a great derm program so probably derm.

@jeff. What happen with the clinical psych?

ROFL. Wait till you get to med school at least. Believe me, your views will change.
