what if ur hubby[software ] got laid off during ur studies?

YA, its very stressful. But my hubby recently told me that the market is kinda picking up now so Iam not too worried about it now-a-days.

my fiance, a network engineer, has lost his job back in september. now we will (most likely) be moving from nyc to syracuse, ny where i was accepted to medschool. he told me that on the one hand, it is gonna be easier to take off without leaving a good job behind. so, i'll just borrow a little more loans. also we both agree that right now is a great time to go to school and maybe improve and update his knowledge while the market is down. so we are trying to look at a bright side of things. hang in there guys! as long as u can give each other support. : )

Hi - my husband just got laid off, but he found another job in pretty short order. He started today! The problem (and it really isn't much of one) - far less money than he was making before, making it necessary for me to work part-time while I'm in school. I'm already working, it just hasn't been "necessary" until now. The upside, believe it or not, is that I'm now qualified for student aid, so by next year, our tuition costs will be going way down. Also, his severance package + vacation pay is allowing us to pay off almost all of our debt. That's going to help a lot in the finance department.

My philosophy is this - if you work your ass off, you generally will at least pull out even. And by the by, the market really is picking up...

thats true what ever is happening is for good at the end!I will be going to nyu for my dentistry this july.I believe moments like these sure makes us better people in relationship,solving prblms,most imp is to appreciate/be happy with what we have now!

Yeah but unfortunately everyone else in your situation has the same idea....Everyone I ever worked with is thinks that this is a good time to head back for the ol MBA...dont know what that is going to do to enrollment cutoffs.

The good news is (as another poster has mentioned) that the market is picking up again, so there should be more opportunities in the next 6 months. Another option: Has your husband tried short term employment through places like Manpower or Spherion? Most people think these places only provide low paying "temp" jobs, but they really have gone into IT full tilt, and the pay is comparable to whats available in traditional employment situations (Tech Writing in the 50's, VB in the 60K range etc). I have worked at Spherion, and I liked the variation of assignments, and the ability to change bosses whenever I wanted (within reason of course). The only real downside is no stock options, and you do get treated like AS (agency scum) by some companies (usually by the salaried folks working 50+ hours a week as they watch the AS pull their 9-5's).

I am a married female dental student, whose husband just started his own company. It is tough, we have had to watch our pennies, but it is also making us realize what is more important, and that we don't have to spend money to enjoy each other's time. We are both so busy too, so we don't feel guilty if the other one is at home doing nothing.

i havent had the least bit idea that one day ill be worrying abt survival in this present day world !!Actually I have been spoilt by my parents toomuch !!I am realising the importance of money now.
what ever comes in life we have to confront it!

I know what y'all mean. My fiancee has a relatively stable job (my little computer geek) but I am always afraid of what would happen in case he lost it. With the way the market is looking, you never know what to expect. We are supposed to marry within a year or two (depends on when I get into med school) and the possibility of him losing his job is so threatening. I guess at times likes this we all realize what's important.
