What happens if I don't fulfil the letter requirements at a certain school

For a bit of background, I am a BME major. Many schools are ambiguous as to whether or not they accept BME classes as "science" letters. If they needed a "hard science" letter, would they put my application on hold or simply not tell me? Thanks for the feedback!

A few schools have cited that if the class is classified as BCPM, they will accept it as a “science” letter. However, most emails are non-answers.
