What going on with the oral board exams? There are statistics published for the past dozen exams. The past 3 have had the worst result ever among those listed. American Board of Ophthalmology Facts & Statistics | American Board of Ophthalmology

39 to 59 people have failed each time. Then last year 90 people failed. Then 70. Then 76. All record numbers of failure. The number taking the test is about the same. Looking at it percentage-wise, roughly 14-20% fail. The last year, 28.8% failed, then 24.1% then 22.6%.

The boards look like a blood bath. Over a decade, there seems to be about 300 ophthalmologists, people who scored well on the USMLE and had high class rank, that cannot become board certified. What a waste of talent. Yikes.

Never have I been so scared. The exam is in October.

In contrast, in Canada, the pass rate for what people say is a harder exam is about 95-98%. Getting people to study is a noble goal but having the odds of failure so bad....yikes.
