Hello,
Looking to apply this cycle. Biology major/Chem minor.
GPA: 4.0 (cGPA and sGPA)
MCAT: 523 (132/129/132/130)
Residence: NJ
Race: ORM
Undergrad Institution: mid-tier school (T30 public)
Clinical experience: 850 hours volunteer EMT so far (projected around 1500 before matriculation); 200 hours as a paid EMT (about 80 of these working closely with mid-levels and doctors on call)
Research experience and productivity: about 350 hours over 2 semesters at lab; 1 upcoming second-author manuscript submitted to fairly high impact journals (Nature, Advanced Materials), 1 presentation at undergrad symposium
Shadowing experience: 8 hours shadowing cardiologist (have experiences I can speak to and really could see myself doing this, but alas COVID. Looking to add more and shadow PCP; Will this kill my chances?); about 60 hours virtual if that even counts
Non-clinical volunteering: About 120 hours as a volunteer tutor for grade school children in underprivileged communities
Other extracurricular activities:
- Editor and reviewer of undergraduate literary magazine on campus
- President of small healthcare-related club
- TA for one semester for a BIO class
- Published poetry in various campus journals; some creative fiction writing as well
- Research associate scientist for large, well-known pharma company (200 hours so far, projected a little over 2000 by matriculation)
- D&D (definitely might exclude this one lol) - game master and player for a campus club
- Guitar (acoustic, electric, and some flamenco); looking into 3D modeling and building them as well!
The combo of COVID and graduating very early definitely truncated some activities, but overall happy with what I've done thus far
Relevant honors or awards: undergraduate research awards, Phi Beta Kappa, TriBeta
PS writing is decent (working on improving it) but W/A writing is definitely solid. LORs should also be strong as well (correspondence has been very positive).
Any thoughts on my app?
