Looking to finalize my school list soon and would love some feedback! I'm a non-trad student interested in mental health and women’s health, and I have a background as a project manager and tech consultant.
State of Residency: Colorado, ties to Oklahoma (lived there until I was 22) and Texas (lived there for 3 years). Undergrad Institution: University of Oklahoma. Postbac coursework: University of Colorado Boulder.
URM/ORM: ORM (I think, I’m a white woman but first-gen college student in my family) FAP: No Disadvantaged: Yes (Federal Aid, mom, and brother/sister had addiction issues growing up, my mom passed from suicide unfortunately which inspired my career switch to medicine & my thesis on suicide)
Academic Metrics: cGPA: 3.58 sGPA: 3.56, PostBac GPA: 3.74 MCAT: 520 (129/130/129/132)
Clinical Experience:
400 Hours by time of app, but 2080 hours by summer 2024 of Medical Assisting in Colon and Rectal Surgery
300 Hrs of In-Patient Behavioral Health Technician Position
250 Hrs of Scribing in Emergency Department
30 Hours Harm Reduction Volunteering
62 Hrs of Shadowing between PM&R, OBGYN, Psychiatry (& electroconvulsive therapy), Colon/Rectal Surgery, some E-Shadowing during COVID
Research Experience:
290 Hrs Working as Lab Manager for Clinical Psych lab
460 Hrs of Clinical Psych Research + scholarships for my research in college student mental health
Honor’s Thesis on Suicide and Bipolar Disorder (Summa Cum Laude)
1 Posters Presentation at Psych Conference
Non-Clinical Experience:
8400 Hrs as Project Manager and Technology Consultant at Big 4 Firm
810 Hrs of Sexual Assault Hotline volunteering (includes leadership role)
20 Hrs + some projected hours – 50? of Women’s Shelter volunteering
Hobbies:
Yoga Teacher
Piano, Concert Band, Percussion Ensembles, Study Abroad
School List:
High Reaches: Harvard, Stanford, Hopkins, UCSF, Penn, Yale, Columbia, Duke, Chicago
Reaches/Targets: Colorado, Oklahoma, Michigan, UCLA, NYU, Emory, Vanderbilt, Pitt, UCSD, Cornell, Northwestern, Mt. Sinai, Baylor, Mayo, UTSW, USC, Dartmouth, Einstein, Hofstra, UNC (?), Miami, Vermont, USF-Morani (?), SUNY Downstate, I will also probably just apply to all Texas schools since it’s a flat fee.
I’m not planning on applying DO, but I’m unsure.
Any thoughts or advice is appreciated!!
