This is an INCREDIBLE read. Article is front page as well yesterday (Monday October 7th 2019).

Take away points:
1.) Physicians are now statistically more to be a.) Employed b.) more likely to be women c.) more likely to Socialist d.) more likely to be underpaid e.) more likely to stay in places that are heavily Democrat and remain underpaid f.) more likely to be SJWs g.) more likely to suffer from TDS and h.) are violently protesting at what remains of the pitiful AMA meetings to ensure all physician autonomy is stripped away as fast as possible.

2.) Not in the article but I found related data that only 20%, 20%! of new female physicians work FT. I was blown away by this. For men the numbers were flip flopped.

3.) Millennial physicians live in a world of total virtue signaling, for example the article describes how they will spend their free time working against Trump to "help poor people" but wont leave the big cities to actually PROVIDE CARE for poor people in rural areas.

4.) Millennials have the WORST decision making matrix imaginable, I cant even make this up its so insane like something from the movie "Idiocracy" one physician (Hilary Fairbrother) took a job for HALF of what her best offer was because“What happens when there’s no Indian restaurants where we live and my child never gets to taste Indian food?” she asked. I almost lost my crap at that point in article. I literally threw my coffee cup across my patio. I wanted to reach through the newspaper and actually begin shaking her.

You MAKE Indian food if its that important to you, you IDIOT. You learn to cook. Like ALL humans since the dawn of fire. Why am I having to actually explain this??

Hilary Fairbrother, Emergency Room Physician at the University of Texas at Houston, congratulations. You have now made me completely embarrassed to be a physician at all. It was bad enough going to conferences with legions of poor Asperger's sufferers in Pathology! Now I need to confront the entire profession has descended into Idiocracy.

Im 100% triggered now. Thank you.

I read that article too. In not so many words, I'll just say that it explains a lot of what's been going on lately.

Glad where I am at the majority are conservative. Yet another reason for you guys to quit hating on rural areas.

Let's see, make money, own 1000s of acres of beautiful farmland and forest, create jobs for the locals by starting many businesses OR live in a crowded, polluted liberal city that is anti-business.

Still have zero interest in living in a rural area. No desire to own 1000's of acres of farmland or forest. No desire to start many businesses. And my liberal city is crowded and somewhat polluted, but certainly appears to be booming from a business standpoint - literally a global biotech, finance, pharmaceutical, education, and healthcare boomtown.

And I do put a high value on the fact that within a 10 minute walk from my condo I can eat amazing food from just about any world cuisine. To each his/her own. That's what makes the country great. You do rural, I'll do urban. Although to be fair, I'm in a great PP and haven't taken any pay cut to be here ;)

How’s the Boston job market? I hear it’s tight up there in the Northeast.

Old man yells at cloud Millennials.

*yawn*

To be honest I don't really know. Been out of fellowship for a little less than a decade, and our group has only had one retirement and subsequent new hire since I joined, so I can't say we've been providing much new employment to the area.

Republican boomers couldn't have done worse to the debt/deficit and entitlement programs than any millennial imo.

I say this as centrist Gen Xer in private practice

In my place of work, I have to deal with seriously Trump deranged people. Almost every day a few of the path docs and secretaries get together and screech about the latest Trump outrage, it is like listening to The View every morning at work. It’s not a policy debate, but just “sky is falling” narratives vomited by CNN, that Trump is in cahoots with the Kremlin to subvert American democracy, or if you support Trump you have to be a covert racist/sexist who hates immigrants and supporting Trump means you support school shootings (yes, one of the secretaries did say that, and no one countered that garbage).

I don’t subscribe to WSJ, so I can’t read full article, just opening paragraph, but compare how the doctors from AMA acted when Obamacare was rolled out: they showed up with their stethoscopes and white coats to help Obama put on a show that “the doctors you trust support my plan”. He then asked if anyone else is missing a white coat. Talk about a clown world: I never bring my white coat out of the hospital. It is as much propaganda and obvious street theater. as getting blue collar workers in full construction gear and hard hats to show up to promote his “shovel ready community reinvestment jobs”. And doctors didn’t get ANY benefit from the Obamacare negotiations, unlike lawyers. Do doctors have any self respect any more?

Oh Wow, I would love to come your worksite. I must be terrifying in person or something because I can wear MAGA hats for days and literally get nothing but compliments. I also havent heard a single person where I work make any Trump deranged syndrome comments aside from a random one off here and there. I hear all these wonderful stories of people getting into confrontations with TDS folks etc. but even when I go looking for it IN CALIFORNIA of all places, I am finding nothing. I even left work one day and drove to a "protest" because I thought maybe it was all FINALLY going down only to find out they were protesting wage cuts at Safeway....@#^% Safeway protest. And when I thought maybe I could ferret some TDS, they all claimed they voted for him!

I dont live in Texas or Alabama. And I have no explanation for this lack of rabid anti-Trumpism I see on youtube...

I'm always surprised that well-educated people consume that nonsense
TDS is real, but mostly from his very scary supporters who deny reality.
The meltdown has just begun, its going to be glorious.
I bet he resigns as the weak little rich boy he is

At least his skin will match his orange jumpsuit when he gets what he deserves.
Lock him up...

Well isn’t that special! Sounds like that Doctor’s lounge is not a safe space and they deal in micro aggressions without trigger warnings.

I always wonder how much of your shtick is genuine and how much is pure BS. I mean, all the bragging about money and women is obviously heavily exaggerated for effect, but is there a kernel of truth or is it entirely fictional? Maybe the California life thing is all a hoax and you really do live in Alabama...

Totally legit criticism. Im toying with going to some big conference this year, maybe CAP or whatever the big California thing is in the winter (CSP?).

Maybe we need a SDN pub crawl or something.

Now, that would be a good reason to attend these conferences.

We would need some sort of a secret handshake to recognize one another in the crowds. Preserving anonimity would obviously be a challenge... or perhaps the attendance would be limited to those who already have FU money and don't worry about being doxxed...

We could drunkenly discuss the perennial topics like job market, overtraining, undertraining, poor quality of new trainees, and of course, swinging.

Maybe an SDN forum table at the CAP dinner "gala"?
I can easily imagine a fight breaking out, with a Rodney King like treatment of anyone preaching about the need to expand existing residencies to preemptively account for future increased pathologist demand.
I'd like to see that video uploaded to this forum.

Ha!

An SDN linked social gathering or formal event at any the national meetings would spark more interest than any of the education or research sessions.
Maybe start small with cocktails around happy hour time....

Trump will never resign, unless Erdogan, Hannity, or a famous TV personality calls him on the phone and tells him being president is dumb and he's getting a bad deal and the look at this shiny object that you can only have if you are in the private sector.

There are some of us here who have been very successful financially, went to prestigious schools, served our country militarily ,done multiple medical missions in dangerous areas "in the bush" of the DRC and SUDAN and who give a sizable portion of their earnings to charities who take offense at your catty ,snobby remarks and insinuations.

Why, Y2K, I'm not sure what you mean. How could my comment be construed as "snobby"? What do you think I am insinuating?

It has to do with values and not intelligence or education. You can be educated and smart but consciously choose to support policies that harm others. Some people even think it is "smart" to support such policies because they see life as a zero-sum-game. Also, I've met plenty of well educated people who have poor critical thinking skills. Haven't you?

I have put myself in harms way at great personal expense to help others in dangerous areas. Please don't virtue signal those who don't agree with your views about what''s right or wrong.

All cable news is pretty bad, but watching Fox News makes you less informed than watching no news at all - STUDY: Watching Only Fox News Makes You Less Informed Than Watching No News At All

That's probably even more true now than it was in 2012.

Also, gb criticized Trump and you took it personally and felt the need to list your credentials?
Both he and GB seem to question the sanity, reasoning ability and morality of anyone not fervently anti TRUMP.Where i am mistaken,i apologize. This is not the forum for such a discussion anyway. This reminds me of the 1960's.Either way neither the DEM's or PUB's are our friends. Both parties are controlled by BIG MONEY and LOBBYISTS.A POX ON BOTH THEIR HOUSES.

Autonomy is right behind "pay" as a key to a good career. Unfortunately, pathologists are screwing themselves when it comes to both pay and autonomy by training way too many people, many of whom are just not good physicians or professionals.

I'm waiting for you to tell me where in my post I said anything of the sort. As Bauber pointed out, I made a joke at Trump's expense, who is a public figure, and not above criticism or especially a well-deserved ribbing. You seemed to take that personally, and as said above, I would like to understand why.

He/she sounded a little triggered, no? You seem to have committed micro-aggressions unbeknownst to you. It'd be funny if it wasn't incredibly ironic.
