Hi, so I'm a Canadian citizen studying abroad with plans to do residency in the US and to return to Canada for fellowship/to practice. I'm eyeing a 4-year Med-Peds residency in the US, where I would get double-certification in IM and Peds. My question is, would I be able to come to Canada after completing this program to go directly into practice or into fellowship (ie a specific peds fellowship)? Or would I have to do an extra year of training beforehand? I hear that some American residency programs differ in length than Canadian programs, and sometimes you need to make up an extra year or so. Would appreciate any advice about this, or if someone knew who to reach out to to find out more.
Also, aside- what exams are required to practice in Canada? I know the MCCQE I + II are required, but what about the NAC? I've heard that's only required if you want to do residency in Canada, but not required if you're doing fellowship or going to practice in Canada. Is that the case? Is it province-specific? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
