Hey Guys - I am a gas resident, but I have a quick ENT question: My nine year old nephew has had multiple recurrent AOM infections over the last year, and yesterday my sister called and said he had a TM perf as a result of his latest infection. His ENT wants to place tubes immediately, and she called me asking for advice. I know he probably needs the tubes, but is there any issue placing them after a spontaneous TM perforation? Is there a customary waiting period for the infection to resolve? I know we will typically cancel a case in a Pt with an acute URI, especially a kid, but that has to do with the intubation. And technically he has no URI sxs, just the AOM.
I am sure this is a silly question, but we don't see a lot of this stuff in gas, so I thought I would go straight to the experts. Thanks for any help you can give.
