Hi all,

TX resident here looking to reapply to both in-state and out of state DO and MD. My stats:

3.4cgpa
3.2sgpa
509 mcat
Ethnicity: Asian

Undergraduate: Large, public, in-state

Research experience: not much, ~50 hours data collection at an outpatient clinic, published abstract, and 25 hours at a study at a local children’s hospital. I’m looking for research to participate in during the application cycle but nothing has panned out so far.

Clinical experience: >3200 hours scribing in an ED

Shadowing:
-150 hours between three specialties: pediatrics, cardiothoracic surgery, and family medicine

Volunteer experience:
->200 hours volunteer at a local children’s hospital,
-300 hours volunteering at a local clinic for the homeless
- I also plan on volunteering to tutor refugees in the near future

Leadership: I held a leadership position in a religious organization for two years in undergrad

Other employment: I worked full time as a standardized test prep instructor for several months post-grad

Awards and honors:
-$24,000 in scholarships from my undergraduate institution (for high school GPA/SAT score)
-Dean’s List three semesters

Additionally: strong LoRs from a DO physician I shadowed, as well as from an MD who attended my top choice in state school.

I understand that my GPAs set me back and so am having trouble making a school list. Do I still have a chance at my in-state MD/DO schools? Where all should I apply out of state?

My list thus far:

All TX schools (DO included)

Out of state MD:
Rosalind Franklin
Loma Linda
Seton Hall
Loyola

Thank you in advance!
