Hi guys,
As of November 2nd 2011 its officially announced that Turkey Republic is lawfully open for the work force of the foreign doctors and nurses.
Until now the med and nursing students who have their educations in Turkey were working illegally after graduation. The foreign doctors were working as full-time doctors of private hospitals, only with the signatures of Turkish doctors on their presciriptions. From now on they will be able to work officially and take place in public health organizations as well.
This regulation mainly came from the severity of the need for doctors and nurses in Turkey. Regarding the official statistics (of WHO):
MD number per person (All branches and GPs)
Turkey : 156/100.000 (in the list of European countries, bottom 3rd after Bosnia-Herzegovina and Albania)
Europe : 340/100.000 (average of the whole region)
Specialist number per person
Turkey : 86/100.000 (in the capital, Ankara, 173, and in the eastmost city, Agri, 38)
Europe : 272/100.000
First solution of Health Ministry for this problem is to raise the quota of medicine and nursing students in the universities. The second solution is to open the gates for foreign professional. The first priority will be given to the ones that have their med and nursing education in Turkey.
