"Triple sulfa or SMX for uncomplicated UTI"

What does this mean, exactly? Particularly what is a "triple sulfa" and why is it used for uncomplicated UTI, and why is SMX a reasonable alternative?

From what I've found it has something to do with the solubility of the drug in urine but it really isn't well explained with the sources I've consulted.

Triple sulfas are no longer used in US and that's probably the reason they have been deleted from FA 2016 (Page 177).
