Med school's really tough to get into. Like impossible here in Canada, lol.
I don't know about Canada, but the statistics are not hard to find in the US.

In 2006 39,106 people applied to allopathic medical school and 17,370 matriculated that means about 44% of the people who applied to medical school started th following fall.

In 2006 2,653 students applied to optometry school and 1,413 people started optometry school in the following year. Which means 53% of the people who applied to optometry school started the next school year.
These are the statistics for the number of individual students who applied, and not the number of applications. This number would be dramatically different seeing as most people apply to multiple schools.
