Well ERAS is open and I know a lot of us have clicked submit, certify, apply. Thought I would go ahead and get the ball rolling on this thread for this interview season so we can get an idea of when programs might start offering invitations to interview.

I did a search and read through the 2008-2009 thread and it looks like the first invitation posted was 09/10. Seems awfully soon!

Good luck, everyone!! :luck:

A friend of mine got an invitation today to interview for psych.

Crazy!

I'm curious to know from which programs you think the first invitations will come.

I cannot believe interview season is almost upon us. It seems like yesterday (and a million years ago) that I was going through that last year.

If any of you have questions about New Mexico, PM me.

Haha, I totally remember all of us replying and posting like crazy. I can't believe it's almost been a year! Ahh, memories...

And don't start freaking out when people start getting interviews soon. Every program is different. Some do not even begin looking at applications until they are complete (i.e., the Dean's Letter, which goes out in November). On the other hand, some programs have already filled their slots by that time. And some go through applications as they come in, others in alphabetical order or by geographical region (to compare those candidates against one another). So it doesn't necessarily mean that the people who get interviews first are the "best candidates."

This whole process is a mind bender. Don't get too wrapped up in it. It all works out...usually. :)

By the time it was all over, everyone I knew had at least 10 interviews, even if they got off to a slow start. Also, if there is a particular place you are interested in and are not getting an interview, be persistent and be ready to fill a cancellation on a dime! It can be expensive, but it is totally worth it to get the interviews you want.

Good luck everyone! I hope I see some of you in New Mexico!

This is a good point that I had a question about. How do you stay persistent without looking like a pest? Call? Write? Send perfume-scented love notes? Or just be ready to accept a cancellation at the last minute?

I went through the interview process 2 years ago now, but I still remember how crazy it all was. Basically everyone develops OCD for that few months.

I'm a PGY-2 at IU in Indiana. If anyone has questions about the program, PM me. Good luck everyone!

I'll start. Remember to copy and paste to add yours in.

Thanks :) We got started earlier, but hopefully you guys start soon.

It will come. Well, I keep telling myself that. Sort of a "if you build it they will come" sort of mantra.

I wouldn't worry, guys and gals. Honestly, I was a stellar applicant and had everything except one SLOR in about a week after ERAS opened. I received my first interview on 9/18, my 2nd on 10/2, then 10/6. I heard from programs every so often until late Oct/early Nov when invites REALLY started coming in. No stressing until late October!!!!

Thanks SoCute! It's hard not to let your nerves get the best of you sometimes.

How stellar is stellar? I'm still waiting on my last letter (probably won't be until the end of Sept.)...didn't know if this means I'll be hanging in limbo until November

My point wasn't to compare applications. If you're really curious then I'll just say that my weaknesses were 2 high passes on clerkships (not EM). Other than that, my app was pretty much unblemished and included volunteer work and research. It doesn't matter anymore, though, as internship is a whole different ballgame.

Can we put the place we are getting the interview offer in the "title" line of the message so people viewing the thread later don't have to scroll and try to figure out where the new invitation is? I know right now we don't have a lot of interviews but later I'm guessing this thing will be really long.

mind copying and pasting those into the thread to keep this thing neat and tidy?

congratulations on the interviews!

Question... No CK yet (I take it in a few weeks), and missing my SLORs (in next week). Will that be a problem? Still not sure what the effect of later components is. Although someone did tell me people get interviews without all their LORs in anyway.

you might get more responses to this in the ERAS forum but, for what it's worth, I haven't taken Step 2 yet and am missing 2 of my SLORs. I submitted anyway.

Just submit your application as soon as you feel it's ready!

Thx.

FYI, FWIW: spoke with the PDs of the NC programs. Pretty much across the board they don't look at anything until mid-Oct, and usually don't invite until MSPEs are in (with exceptions for exceptional applicants).

It's very common to be waiting for SLORs/LORs in mid September as many students get them from rotations done in august or september. I wouldn't worry about this.

As far as not having done CK, the importance of this matters if you are an IMG/FMG or an american grad and how good your Step 1 score was. Most american med school grads don't take Step 2 CK until well into 4th year, many times after the winter. Usually their step 1 scores are good enough to get them interviews and ranked.

If you are an FMG, programs usually want to see your step 2 ck prior to granting you an interview unless your step 1 scores is awesome. Also, like others have said, the interviews usually start to role in in mid october and for many programs after the Nov. 1st date when MSPE can be downloaded by programs. So don't worry if you don't have interviews yet. If you have not submitted, I would suggest to submit and just put that you "will take step 2" and put down the LOR writers so that when they come in to ERAS, they will get automatically sent to programs. Good luck.

I have a couple of friends who have recently gotten interviews as well. They're not on SDN so I won't add their names to the list but just in case anyone was wondering where else interviews are being given:

Florida hospital
Kentucky (Lexington)

I have D.O. interview invites from St. Barnabas (NY), Good Samaritan (NY), and UMDNJ (D.O.)

This is a good point that I had a question about. How do you stay persistent without looking like a pest? Call? Write? Send perfume-scented love notes? Or just be ready to accept a cancellation at the last minute?

Generally, the best approach is to write your love note on a crisp $100 bill and post it to the PD.

Seriously, let it ride until the end of October, then call the program coordinator and indicate you're really interested in the program and would appreciate a chance to interview. That might make a difference.

Good Luck.

Geez, the economy must be hurting El Paso badly. You needed $200 up front for me to get an interview with you. Of course, there is another possibility that I'd rather not consider. :)

Take care,
Jeff
