Hi,

I have a few questions about installation and then removal of a plate from my fractured fibula. I've put in some background knowledge at the end.

1) How long does the plate need to stay in?

2) When it is removed, how long before I can practice/play football on it again?

3) What are the complications if the plate is not installed until after 18 days?

Bkgnd:

My specialty is in skeletal muscle modeling so excuse my ignorance. Playing football, I managed to spirally fracture my distal fibula about 3 inches above the ankle. It's taken a long time for my insurance to come through and I finally saw a specialist today. Since the injury I've had a back slab and then 10 days later a full fiberglass plaster. It's been 17 days now.

Anyways, the doc recommended that even tho its been a long time I still should have an operation and a plate should be put it because of the displacement of the bones.

Thanks in advance for input on this...
