Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone is aware of any summer research opportunities (like REU's, SURP's etc.) that are available for senior undergraduates who are graduating before the internship.

Many of the internships that I had applied to last year only took students who still have at least a semester before graduation left after the internship.

One thought I had is personally reaching out to faculty and asking for funding over the summer, although I am not sure how successful I could be in that, especially if I'm looking to do something a little bit outside of my expertise.

Any information would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I believe you want to look at post-bacc NIH sources of funding. One google search for this brought up this: https://www.training.nih.gov/programs/postbac_irta

"The NIH Postbac IRTA program (CRTA, Cancer Research Training Award, in the National Cancer Institute) provides recent college graduates who are planning to apply to graduate or professional (medical/dental/pharmacy/nursing/veterinary, etc.) school an opportunity to spend one or two years performing full-time research at the NIH. "

I know of a few friends who went this route and it work/is working out for them.

If you already did research with someone then that helps when asking them. Cold-calling PIs for a spot is high-risk and high-reward, though.

edit: Here's another site full of information https://www.training.nih.gov/trainees/postbacs
