I am a first year medical student who is interested in PM&R. I would like to do a preceptorship this summer shadowing a PM&R to get some hands on experience with the speciality. Does anyone know of any programs like this anywhere in the country? I am going to Medical School in Lubbock, TX and unfortunately there isn't a whole lot of rehab physicians in this town to shadow.

While not exactly on point, if you don't find a PM&R doc to shaddow, you do have at your disposal one of the best PM&R AND Anesthesia pain specialists in the country right there in Lubbock:

International Pain Institute
4430 South Loop 289
Lubbock, TX 79414
W: 806-743-7246
[email protected]

Dr. Shah is PM&R trained (Rusk), and then did both the HSS fellowship AND a second fellowship with Drs. Gabor Racz and P. Prithvi Raj, two of the great anesthesia pain icons.

If I lived in Lubbock, I would certainly start there.

paz5559,

Thanks for the info. I will definately try to get in contact with Dr. Shah.

Cincinnati has a good internship for med students between first and second year of med school too. There is info on their website.

Dr. Shah is a guy that u could defineitly get a publication with. He just gave my friend a chapter to write on Critical Care in a pain book. Maybe u can shadow him a couple times, and then he can start you on somehting cool for research or a publication.

Thanks Omar,

Do you know where his office is located? I have been intending to go to his office to set up shadowing and have been procrastinating. I probably try to do that this week.

The pain clinic is on Quaker and the loop (highway). I have shadowed Kaye and Racz at the pain clinic and I actually have gotten quite a few publications through Kaye. I actaully went to the pain clinic and got Kaye to hook me up w my first paper. But Kaye is not there anymore. I'm pretty sure u will be able to publish either w Shah and if that doenst work, u can defineitly publish with Kaye thru me or Amir Baluch (MS3), and there are few others that could help u out.

PM me if u got more questions. gluck

Northwestern also has an externship program if your interested. Check their website for more information. I was looking at this externship but they were too strick because the dates interfere with my classes.

Thanks for this info. I getting my CV and personal statement ready in order to apply for this program. Do know any info about this program? Any info on the program itself or the app process would be helpful. Thanks again.
