Why aren't there any subspecialties in oncology like lung vs heme vs GI - the way that there are in pathology? Are most cancers similar enough in terms of treatment that there is no need to have fellowship-trained subsecialists in different cancer types?

Aside from BMT there are no formal subspecialties in oncology. But most people focus on a specific area in fellowship, even if they wind up going into general onc practice in the future. This is important because outside of academics and very large PP groups, most people don't have the opportunity to focus their practices like that.

So BMT is a fellowship after heme/onc?
