Hi,

For those of you who've taken Step 3, would you mind sharing your thoughts on taking it as a 4th year (you can in my state).

Is there any reason not to take it 4th year? I have tons of free time right now and feel like I could get this over with vs. diddling my thumbs.

Does when you take it have any impact on medical licensure?

Thanks =)

wxl, according to the FSMB, appears it can't be done. I am also in a state where there is no "residency" prerequisite, so I was all excited to get this over with once I'm done my clinical responsibilities in April.

See #4. So it looks like you could apply the day after your diploma is issued (for us it's mid-May), get your scheduling permit within 2 weeks and schedule within the 90 day timeframe. If there's an opening early, you could conceivably take it in June, before intern orientation... but it might be a tight squeeze.

That's my interpretation anyway... perhaps there's a loophole? Although the FAQ looks pretty blunt.
