This is definitely motivating. :)

g3k

this is interesting... where did u get this info. from?

This is just awesome...i have roughly a 3.2 and AA 17 PA 19 and SC 17....Thank God, someone else sees hope.

I was in my health professionals office (Brigham Young University) looking at some stats and they gave me a copy of a spreadsheet that had everyone who applied to D-school for the 2003 cycle. As I was looking through it I saw people with Dat scores of 17 and 16 getting in and just thought I would share. There is definitely hope.

a 17 isn't THAT bad.

I think you have to realize that the majority of SDNer's (myself not included) have above average DAT scores. If the only scores you are seeing are from SDN you begin to think that all applicants have similar DAT scores. 'The Official Guide to Dental Schools' published by the ADEA includes stats for all dental schools and this just isn't the case. Except for a few schools, the majority have averages that range from 17-19.

I realize DAT averages are rising but don't think in a year or two they are going to jump from 17-19 to 21-23.

Just don't let SDN scores discourage you because they aren't the norm (yet).

Regarding Nova.... #2 and #11 are very interesting - I have an interview there soon, and my stats place me in a favorable position over these guys. Any idea when these people applied? - and the rest in general?

My stats are very close to #4, and I am already interviewed at CASE... .

I don't know when they applied, and I imagine that it makes a huge difference. The only thing that the spreadsheet tells me is age, ethnicity, gender, stats, and residency.

sorry can't be of more help.

But don't forget BYU among admins is a well know school with an awesome rep.

I think they are the biggest pre-dent factory in the country. You go there for pre-dent and you are almost guranteed into dental school

Vasco, what is the placment rate now? A few years ago it was in the mid 90's

Ya your right, BYU has placed well in the past. For 2002 the placement rate was 94%. For 2003 (most recent data) the rate dropped to 86%. I think some of this drop might be attributed to lower stats. In 2002 the average BYU DAT score was a 20.6; however, in 2003 the average was 19.59 for all applicants.

Which brings up a good question. How much does your undergrad institution help or hurt your chances of acceptance?
