Go with your heart OP. Everyone told me I was crazy for turning down my DO acceptance. Well I did. I reapplied the following year (improved my MCAT and app) and go into 5 MD schools. If you want it, go get it. But also be prepared for the possibility of not getting accepted. For me, it was MD or bust.

Should I follow my heart and all in on some lottery tickets and sit down and play some fortnite and wait for it to roll in for me?
I mean its your life but OP asked for advice ie. what is most logical.

Horrible comparison. In your case you'd be sitting around waiting. In OPs case, they would work hard to improve app and reapply....good one tho

I like it although slightly childish and sarcastic. Just trying to follow my heart Bro...

I said it like a month ago when this thread was started and I'll say it again if OP is even still following it: Retake the MCAT in March, get your scores back in April, make up your mind whether a reapplication is worth it at that time.

Right??? I remember my first acceptance this cycle. It was from a “low tier” DO school and I cried when I found out. My boss gave me the rest of the day off, I went and bought my wife some flowers, we went out to dinner, etc lol. I went on to receive several more interviews at both MD and DO schools that turned into acceptances. But I’ll never forget the feeling of being accepted to my first med school, even if it was a “low tier DO school”. I question the OP’s intentions. Do they actually want to be a physician or do they just like the idea of being a physician.
Idk..I think it’s easy to say these things in hindsight. Let me guess - you eventually chose that MD school you got into. Am I right? If OP isn’t happy, retake the mcat and try again. The app looks solid otherwise.

I agree that OP should retake the MCAT and try again. They should’ve retook it when they got a 500 instead of applying. In regards to the MD program, I only completed a secondary at 1 MD school and did interview there a couple weeks ago, so I am still waiting to hear from them. All other schools that I have interviewed at I’ve been accepted to, though. Yes, I would choose that MD school if accepted, but not necessarily because of the MD. Rather, they are 20 minutes from where I currently live. I sent primaries to a lot of MD schools, but I decided not to complete the secondaries because I just didn’t want to go there. I applied very narrow and only to schools I actually wanted to go to, plus 1 safety school. If I were accepted to an undesirable MD school (in my eyes) vs the “top tier” DO school that I’ve deposited at, I’d probably still choose the DO school.

I agree with everything except where you said you would have chosen a top tier DO over a low tier MD.

For any applicants or pre-meds reading this, never choose a DO over an MD. Any MD school will give you better opportunities than even the best of the best of DO schools. I just don't want this to mislead anyone. Coming from a DO student.

I honestly can’t blame anyone to be hesitant to go DO. Just limiting options is scary to me. What if you get into med school and decide you would hate to do primary care? That is the only problem with DO for me.

I’m not recommending a top DO over a low MD. If you are an unmarried individual, with no serious obligations or concern for anyone else, then by all means pick the MD school no matter where you have to go. My wife is a specialty pharmacist (that required a residency), and I chose schools that were in areas where there were current or upcoming opportunities for her. The other MD schools I applied to weren’t in the most desirable areas. Also, unlike physicians, pharmacists have to retake their licensure exam for each state; inefficient, I know. So, I tried my best to stay in the state we’re currently in for the time being. I could’ve applied without regard for my wife, but for me to ask her to take a job as a retail pharmacist, would be like her asking me to be a family physician if I were trained as a specialist. If I’m going to put her through this, I at least want her to be happy in her career.

Understandable.
