So exactly what is so different about people who get into Harvard/Hopkins?

I know you need a high MCAT/GPA and stuff...but I feel as though everyone who get into med school has at least a decent attitude and intelligence...

but what exactly sets the ppl who get into these top schools apart from those who get rejected...do they seriously discover a cure for cancer or something? (*please don't say yes, please don't say yes*)

Research publications, leaders of clubs, highly driven, lots of medical experience, volunteering. Things like that. Basically going above and beyond.

Publication on Nature/Science magazine will give you a shot at Harvard/Hopkins.

Good friend of mine (lol my mentor) 3rd year MSTP student at hopkins

His stats:
32 MCAT - 10,11,11
3.98 GPA - Biology Major
Neuro research 3 years - a few publications forgot how many
Athlete
Various clubs

Edit: He told me hopkins looks for students who are "unique". Boring pre-meds are usually weeded-out in the application/interview process.

Your friend is a big hustler. :D

What mentor program ? Is it through your university ?

Sounds you are becoming one of those big hustlers like your friend.

I have good networking skills.

The alumni of colleges I am interested in have their info on the school website. I'd contact them and ask them questions. Something I set-up myself.

I only wished Asians count as an URM.

The only thing worse than being a white male is being an Asian male in terms of admission. I might have an advantage in getting an entry-level job this summer, though :p

High MCAT score.
High GPA.
Shadowing.
Clinical Experience

RESEARCH. 2-3 years. Major publications.

Leadership of some kind.

Overall well rounded. Having something unique would also definitely help you out a lot.

Idk, this is what I am able to pick out off the top of my head. Go look at mdapplicants.com and see the resumes of students who apply.

NOTE: DO NOT TRUST MDAPPLICANTS.COM
Yes, some profiles are true but, most are not.

Being a minority helps
