Depends on what kind of a smoker you are. For some smoking becomes more of a routine thing than a nicotine thing. If you are one of those guys who loves to sit on the "kattha" outside shivaji park and smoke with your buddies, you are doing it more for the experience of hanging out with your friends (smoking in a way just completes the experience). In this case I suggest you do something else like sip on a bottle of water. It will be a lot harder if you smoke with friends, because when the others keep smoking, it will be hard for you not to.

Some people smoke because they really do crave the nicotine. In this case you have work to wean yourself off using nicotine patches or gum.

I lived in Mumbai from the age of 4-7 with my grandmother on Mahim seaface. I also went to Bombay Scottish till the 3rd grade. But that is the last time I "lived" in Mumbai... after that it was just occasional visits during breaks :(

interesting! so thats why u love cricket. Shivaji park was home to some most famous cricketers India ever had.

those images wont help buddy!! :) I have seen plenty of those during my pathology classes. I've seen and handled those lungs at autopsies. :p I have even described those specimens in detail at univeristy vivas to most dreaded examiners.

Damn right. Agit Wadekar (who I recently met at a fund raiser in Philadelphia), Sunil gavaskar, Praveen Amre, Kambli and Tendulkar, Ramakant Achrekar and a whole bunch of other "kar's" harnessed their cricketing skills at shivaji park.... also virtually every other maharashtran boy who was never good enough to actually play professional cricket (and had to settle for a career in the medical sciences :( ) has a very special bond with shivaji park as well.

I just wish the damn national team concentrated on winning instead of making multimillion dollar endorsement deals

quite true. u know the moment i really want to quit smoking i can quit but at the moment i dont feel like quitting. i posted this thread coz a lot people were nagging me to quit it. My roomy recently got involved in CAT (campaign against tobacco) since then he's been always asking me to quit. The other reason is that my parents dont know about my smoking habit. So when i go home i'm constantly under fear of getting caught. My sister caught me this time i went home. she has promised to not disclose it to my parents but i dont want to remain under her constant threats!! :p

Yes, the threat of getting caught by the parental units is always a problem, which further makes the act of smoking more appealing due to its "danger"

smokin' ain't good fo ya son.

i don't have any useful suggestions though, because whatever i say would be tough for you to comply with. i mean, my uncle quit smoking, but he went through this phase where he was SO grumpy and frustrated- withdrawal. however, my advice would be to cut back... like if you smoke 3 cigs a day, then cut it to 2.5, then 2, etc etc.. and in place of smoking, do something else.. like.... drink! (jk).. go jogging, or work out.. not only will you be smoke-free, but you'll feel better too!! :) good luck man.

the only bloody way to "Quit" is to have an enforced abstinence.some fear which is worse than the urge to ***..
i have been a hosteller, and gettin home has driven me nuts! no fags,booze,porn..missin the good life!! :(
and it is "quit" cause the moment you get a chance, you are busy puffing again! no need to feel guilty, just accept the fags will be less frequent, but more enjoyable..i had my first ***-rush for years after 3 weeks without!
And..screw the guys who tell you its not good for you!!been there, heard that..
and no activity compares to the lazy feelin' while inhaling those carcinogens(YES, i DO know, so knock it off!) while there is nothin to do..*sigh* only wankin off comes(sorry!) a close second! ;)

so true but off late its been denting my pocket quite heavily... I have to juggle with my monthly budget to accomodate extra pack of fags for a test a weekend. :(
