Should I update?

I listed volunteering in a hospital on my AMCAS (which I did all of last semester) and said that I expected to continue into this semester. However, after a lot of trying I was unable to get in contact with the volunteer coordinator and so was unable to volunteer. Should I send an update saying this. Are schools likely to check up on the kind of thing, or would they hold it against me for bringing it up?
