Hello,

Anyone here can explain the different values seen in shock and the reason behind it. Septic, dec volume, cardiogenic,

CI, LVEDV, PVR

Don't have time to type out every detail but in general try to envision the process and its easier to predict what will happen.

Hypovolemic shock- lost intravascular volume, arteries and veins constrict trying to counteract and increase return to heart, blood is shunted from organs and skin, pt becomes cool and diaphoretic, heart is racing but has less to work with so output falls.

Septic shock- everything dilates and starts leaking into interstitial spaces, skin is warm and perfused.

Cardiogenic shock- the pump is not effective so output falls but volume is normal, arteries and veins constrict to try to make up for it and pt will be cool and diaphoretic

Neurogenic shock- vascular tone is lost, everything dilates and return to heart falls.

thank you :)

also, If possible can you please briefly explain why there is an inc in the LVEDV and LVEDP in MR?
