SDN is launching a new series of profiles highlighting how young doctors who are underrepresented in healthcare overcame challenges to successfully make their way into a healthcare profession. These profiles will be published on the main SDN site (www.studentdoctor.net) and are eligible for an honorarium payment for the author.

Target interview candidates should be young professionals within five years of completing their education/residency training who are underrepresented in healthcare relative to their numbers in the general population (Black, Mexican American, Puerto Rican, or Native American/Alaskian Native/Pacific Islander). We also will consider profiles of young professionals who are from areas that are severely underserved for healthcare, such as some rural areas.
Our goal is to launch this series in August and publish at least one profile per month. Below is the list of questions that should be covered:
  • Basic background information: Name, healthcare profession, area of specialization, location of practice
  • When did you decide to pursue becoming a doctor (physician/dentist/veterinarian, etc.)?
  • Did you have any healthcare role models growing up? How did this individual impact your pursuit of/passion for healthcare?
  • What did your path to becoming a healthcare professional look like?
  • What challenges did you face pursuing your healthcare career choice?
  • What resources did you use to help you pursue your dream?
  • What would you do differently, knowing what you do now?
  • What advice would you give students in a similar situation?
  • What does your typical day look like?
We also will need a high resolution image of the doctor being profiled for publication. Details on writing for SDN: Writing for SDN • Student Doctor Network

Please message me if you are interested in submitting a profile for this series. We also have a 20 questions series if you have an older doctor that you would like to profile.
