Hey all --- new to this but I'll give it a shot.
I'm looking for some input as to which schools I should consider. I'm feeling overwhelmed with all the information floating around the interwebs and could use a hand (or many!)
Here we go:
female, non-URM reapplicant
MCAT -- waiting for score from May test date, but was scoring around 506 on practice tests
GPA (cumulative) 3.8
EC:
Shadowing: 111 hours (in surgery, pediatrics and family practice -- 24 are DO)
Research: around 100 hours in two studies, one publication
Patient Contact: volunteer at local AIDS test site for 2 years, around 150 hours, ER volunteer 70 hours, HIV prevention counselor for 3 months so far
Community service: 7 years as volunteer pianist at local hospital (around 500 hours), volunteered at animal shelter for a summer
Leadership: AMSA officer for 2 years, leader in local congregation for 2 years

Employed as Medical Laboratory Scientist for 4 years now

I'm looking at both MD and DO -- I basically just want to get in somewhere.
DO considerations are currently:
AT Still AZ
Midwestern (az)
CCOM
NOVA southeastern
Pacific Northwest
Midwestern (pacific)
Des Moines

MD considerations:
U of Utah
U of AZ Tucson
Creighton
Pacific Northwest
MCW
SLU

Without my scores it's a little difficult to know where I should be focusing, but any input would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Where is your state of residence? Without a MCAT score it is difficult to give accurate advice for MD schools. For DO schools if you score at least 505 you are competitive for any DO school. Let us know what your MCAT score is when available.

A lot of times the practice test scores from prep companies are deflated. So if you were averaging 506 from Kaplan tests there's a chance you did significantly better. Best of luck!

state of residence is UT, but I am thinking I'd like to go OOS. Obviously I would stay in-state if accepted.

Pacific Northwest University is an osteopathic school (so DO, not MD)

Gotcha. I took the old MCAT and got a 25 and 27.

You are competitive for all the DO schools on your list so apply to all of them. MD schools where you have a chance for an interview with your stats include:
Utah
U Arizona (Tuscon and Phoenix)
Quinnipiac
New York Medical College
Creighton
St. Louis
Tulane
Oakland Beaumont
Western Michigan
Rosalind Franklin
Loyola
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
U Nevada (both schools- one is new) and Roseman (new school). The new schools will be accepting applications sometime this year.

Thanks all for the input -- I really appreciate it!

How severe of a handicap are we talking about with multiple MCATs?
