Is the NRMP the only pathway to go to apply for a residency in the USA? or is there another way? thanks for any info on this topic.

Not all residencies use the NRMP. There are some specialties which use the San Francisco Match http://www.sfmatch.org

Some programs do not participate in the NRMP but instead fill their programs independently. However, these are in the vast minority of programs and are generally small, subspecialty programs who take in-house applicants.

The US mililtary has its own match as do Osteopathic programs. You must be either on duty in the US Armed Forces or an osteopathic student to participate in these matches.

Hope this helps.
