I am a recent emergency residency grad. I have no prior military service, but am considering joining the reserves. I'm specifically interested in air force (largely bc I live within close proximity to a base), but potentially open to other branches. I was hoping to get some input regarding a few basic questions:

-What would the practice of EM within the reserves look like if the base you're assigned to doesn't have an ER? Fill in for other ER docs stateside when they deploy?

-What would I potentially do on a deployment?

-What would drill weekends entail? Do you always stay the night on base?

-Understanding that the military is in the business of deploying and recognizing that no one can predict future conflicts, any thoughts on deployment tempo?

-Would joining a specialty group make me more or less likely to deploy?

I would be thankful for any other info that those in the know would be willing to share.

Thanks and stay safe.
