As residents, residency program directors, or anyone of the like, what type of research were you/do you like to see students involved in? I understand that there are two major divisions of research in pharmacy: clinical and basic sciences. Which is preferable for someone wanting to do a residency?

From your experience, is every research project guided by a professor or is it possible to conduct clinical research independently as a student?

After one has conducted a research project, what are ways to display it? Does it only result in an abstract/presentation?

Any advice of pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Any research is good for residency applications, but clinical looks best on a residency application. The project as a student is mainly guided by the professor. It takes time to start up a project (i.e. protocol, definitions, IRB, etc), and most of the time students are involved in data collection. Research projects can be displayed as an abstract at meetings for pharmacy or medical societies. Research projects can also be written up as manuscripts and submitted for publication. PM if you have more questions.
