Reach out to programs with step 1 cutoff

Hi,
I have a poor step 1(under 220) but a much higher step 2 (260) and my grades and evaluations are pretty good. I am afraid I will get screened out at some places due to my step1. Would it be a good idea for me to reach out to such programs and request them to consider my application? If so would it be good to do that before the interviews go out?

You should reach out if there are a few specific places you are interested in. Sometimes the cutoffs aren’t that high though.
