r ophthalmologists considered "surgeons"?

they seem to do lots of surgery but they are limited to teh eyeballs and they always hang out in their own buildings in every hospital.. so are eyes considered "surgeons" like orthos, ents, etc?

Yes, they are considered surgeons just like any other specialist. None of the hospitals I've worked at have specialized Optho buildings so they hang out in the same lounge we do (matter of fact, last Friday one of the Optho attendings popped his head into our Lap Chole with a difficult IOC to see if he could "help". Cue laughter all around).

There was a long thread on just this topic not more than a few weeks ago. I'm sure a search will yield it.
