If you are currently matched into a TY + advanced residency but decide you want to change specialties and apply for the change of specialty waiver before the dec 15th deadline to get you out of your contract with the advanced program, anyone have any experience with this and how likley it would be to match into a general surgery program in this coming cycle? I have competetive scores for radiology and 2 pubs. would try to get on a project really soon.
Also when you apply for the match the second time around for the new specialty, are you allowed to use your old specialty as a backup or soemthign related like IR? in case you dont match into the new specialty. I know reapplying is a huge risk but I definitely would be willing to take the risk if I was able to switch fields. I would also have to repeat intern year but hey is what it is i got myself into this mess.
