[Q] Is step3 Score important for a fellowship ?

I just heard from someone that Step3 score is important
in getting a good fellowship after the residency.
Is this true ?

Up till now I thoght one only has to pass step 3 and score
is not important.

If this is true, I think I will postpone taking step 3.

I am ECFMG certifed and will mostly get a J1 visa for residency and there is no reason why I would take step 3 before my residency. I thought I would just take it to pass while I
have time before I get into the residency but I'll have to think
again.

Any ideas ?

Step 3 score will have very little significance in your medical career. Fellowship will depend on your residency record including in service exam scores and evaluations. Passing Step 3 is good for getting a license only, as you surmised.

step 3 is a meaningless test with the exception of it being required for state licensing in most if not all states.

it won't impact your fellowship.

it also will be the easiest test in your life, although i am told it is a little harder for IMGs to score well on since it is an 'American' test-divided into american locations.
