Hey everyone,

I am a little confused on institutional discrimination.

If individuals within an institution ( eg. your interviewer at Med school) exhibited discriminatory behavior, does it also count as institutional discrimination or is it just individual discrimination?

Thanks!

Institutional discrimination is when an entire institution discriminates against a particular group of people. The individual interviewing would not constitute institutional discrimination because he is only one individual practicing the act of discrimination. If for example the entire medical school comes out with a policy stating that they won't interview anyone with a criminal record, then that would be considered institutional discrimination.
